Love Musical : "The Producers" Funniest!!

I Looooove this musical because it is so stupid, but every art is wonderful. I really really really want to watch it on the stage. I cannot stop smiling when I watch this.

This musical is a comedy-musical . As in the film, the story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Complications arise when the show unexpectedly turns out to be successful. The humor of the show is accessible to a wide range of audiences, and draws on ridiculous accents, caricatures of homosexuals and Nazis, and many show business in-jokes. The musical was a hit in New York, spawning national tours and successful productions in London and internationally. The musical opened on April 19, 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards.

Everything looks ridiculous, but every components are marvelous. I put my favorite below.

Oh my gaaaaaaash!! The Hitler is so gay!!

Love Musical: "A Chorus Line" Love the dance and the choreography!!

I watched this musical played by senior students when I was in high school in japan. They did just dancing, not so good. I watched it because our school had a great dance tea who tried to be in the Broadwat show when he was young thaught dancing to them. It was disappointed, but I got interested in this musical. So, I rented the movie and watched. The Dance and the choreography were totally beyond my expectation!! This musical is the most fantastic musical&s musical.

The story is about seventeen Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. With nineteen main characters, it is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. The show provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the
choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. The original Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, was an unprecedented box office and critical hit, receiving 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It ran for 6,137 performances, becoming the longest-running production in Broadway history up to that time. It remains the longest running Broadway musical originally produced in the United States, and the fourth longest-running Broadway show ever. The show has enjoyed many successful productions worldwide and was revived on Broadway in 2006.

When I was in U.S. A. I played the song Onein the Marching show. We did the high kick like actors in the musical with playing instruments. I think in the revival version, there must be Japanese cast, and the movie is comming out. I am not sure but excited so much!!

One!! Everytime I watch this I wanna be a dancer!!

My working place☆★

I am working at cafe in station building. We serve coffee with siphon. Our cafe's name is "Cafe Fan", it is located in Tachikawa China Town. Tachikawa China Town is just a name. It is actually in the 7th floor of Granduo (Station Building). The whole floor is filled with Chinese restaurant except our cafe. Sometimes, customers complain us why there is cafe specialized in cofee not chinese tea in the Chinese floor. Well, we don't know. We never understand what executives are thinking. Love Musical: "Rent" Great Fellowship and love

I listened to the song The Seasons of love from RENT in somewhere choir concert. I asked my host sister about that song , in answer she gave me RENT DVD.

Rent is considered as a rock opera, it isbased on Puccini opera La Bohème. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS.

Eventhough the character in this musical, has almost no money, serious disease, complex background, they are trying to live brightly. Some of them are homosexual, but their love is true love. We can learn great fellowship and love.

Great Great song!!

Nice percussion and dance,Angel!!

This black guy is also inthe movie Chicago.La Vie Boheme!!

Take me baby, or leave me.

There is only us, No day but today....

Haruki Murakami

I like reading books. Unfortunately I heven't read lots of book since I entered the college. My favorite author is Haruki Murakami. After reading his book, I always felt like I came to another world, Haruki's world. I like both his long stories and short stories.

These are haruki's works I have. I f you read his book one time, you will not get interested in another author. His book is that powerful.

Love Musical: West Side Story

When i watched this musical movie, I didn't like it at first. Probably it is because of the camera angle. But know, I like it. I heve to admit that this is one of the greatest musical performance in the American history.

The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein !! He is the greatest conducter in U.S.A. He thaught conducting to Seiji Ozawa. The story settings is in Manhattan's West Side Hill Kitchen in the mid-1950s, the musical developes the rivalry between two teenage gangs of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The young protagonist, Tony, who belongs to the White gang, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the rival Puerto Rican gang. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in American musical theater. Bernstein's score for the musical is extremely popular; it includes "Something's Coming," "Maria," "America," "Somewhere," "Tonight" and so on.The original 1957 Broadway production ran for 732 performances (a successful run for the time), before going on tour.

My music history teacher taught me anecdote of "West Side Story". The very first day of its performance, after the show, there were sighlent, no applause. The director thought this musical is false. But soon after, the huge applause came up!! In that time, this muiscal was so shocking to audience, so they could't react soon after the show was over.

I put my favorite scene from the movie.

America!!

I think I watched same scenery in "Sweeny Tod". By the way, I hate that movie version. They don't know what musical is.

Love Musical : "Chicago" The best for me.

"Chicago" is my very favorite musical. I only watched the movie. I really want to watch it on stage, but I keep missing the chance. I don't wan to watch Japanese versioon of Chicago because I know it would not be good. Chicago has to be played by broadway team. The music and the dance are my favorites kinds of style. This musical is filled with things I like. I love swing, that kind of show and story.

when i visited Broadway, "Chicago"theater was in front of Tarzan's theater. I was about to escape from Tarzan's line to line up Chicago's line. My teacher found me and stopped me but he said "I understand how you feel".

The Chicago's story is about a corruption in the administration of criminal justicee, and it includes concept of the "celebrity criminal." The musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she had reported on.The original Broadway production opened June 3, 1975 at the 46th Street Theatre and ran for a total of 936 performances. Bob Fosse choreographed the original production, and his style is strongly identified with the show. Chicago's 1996 Broadway holds the record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadw and, is Broadway's eighth longest-running show in history. As of November 15, 2008, it has played for more than 5,000 performances. The revival was followed by a production on London's West End and several tours and international productions. An Academy Award-winning film version of the musical was released in 2002.

This is my favorite song in the movie.

I love this performance. This is fantastic!! I want to dance tango like this some day. Some of my friends do this "Cell Block Tango" at school talent show.

I think Roxy is so pretty and sexy.

I love both of them. They are so cool!!

Black or White

African American finally became the president of U.S.A. I love black music and interested in their history and culture. I am going to learn African American literature at college next term.I wrote this essay in eriting class.

Blacks and Whites in United States

United States is a country which contains various races and their cultures as a result of being immigrant country. In the history of United States, there are two kind of distinctive people who are always compared with. They are black people and white people. Not only their looks, but also those people’s historical background is a point which makes them so different.

White people are often considered as people who came from European continent or whose ancestors are European. In the 1607, first white people reached North-American Continent from Great Britain. After that, many people from European country tried to come to America searching for wealth and religious freedom in the new world.

Twenty black people reached America in 1619 first. They were taken to America from African Continent as slaves to serve for white people. They were not considered as humans, but considered as rather commercial products to run businesses, especially plantation. A lot of salves are needed for primary businesses of United State. That is why white people imported many slaves.

Inconvenient social class differences through history emphasized diverse of White and Black people’s life and Culture. Since black people are not considered as a human at first, they are officially segregated by law of United States. Through the long time of Civil Rights movement, black people were finally approved their rights officially in 1964. However they have right to live equal to white people, it took long time to change people’s thoughts. Today, there is no clear segregation as it was used to be, but from the point of education level and living, whites and blacks are still quite different. Blacks often have lower income and educational level than those of white people on average. These facts can be one of the reasons why a lot of Black people in United States commit crimes and other social problems such as Affirmative Action.

Mention to their religion, both black and white people are worshiping Christianity. In the Slave era, white people forced black people to abandon their culture and to worship Christianity. However they worship a same religion, black people were not allowed to step in white people’ s church, so they made their own church and worshiped Christianity by their own way. Black people sang a song to God with their own rhythm and beats from Africa in their church. This is the very primary of Gospel or Soul music and foundation of Jazz and Blues. From this church separation, black and white people started to practice different cultures although they are living in the same country.

In United States, Hip-Hop and R&B music which are usually considered as Black Music are very popular genre of music today among young people. In dance clubs, you can see Blacks, Whites, Asian and Native American are dancing together with hot hit tunes. It seems young people don’t care about racial differences, but in school, for an example, you still can see students who belong to their racial groups. In other words, white people tend to stick together and so do blacks and other racial groups. There are still historical forces which made people exclusive from other races, especially between Blacks and Whites.

I put this music video just because I like it and it fit my essay's title.

All ..dat..JAZZ

When I was in U.S.A, I took Jazz class. I learned haw to play Jazz, Jazz theory and Jazz history from great trumpeter Mrs. Shellhammer. She and I were only girls in this class. All students in this class were trumpeter and worshiping Mrs.Shellhammmer. Some of them were intend to learn Jazz in the college. This class was the hardest but the most interesting class.

Do you see how much I worked hard for this class??It was great opportunity for me to learn Jazz. I have liked Jazz but didn't know about it. To know the structure of Jazz, or its history is good to understand American music.

These are textbooks we used in class. I still play musics from these book for fun.

I bought this sticker When I went to Blue Note in N.Y. All of Jazz class member went to Blue Note together as a part of field trip. We watched Chick Corea's Electric Band show. When i ordered drink at this club, the servant brought different drik. They apologize to me and gave me special desssert. It was a special night.

Chick Corea Electric band is very free style Jazz, morden.

He is Jazz singer and flugelhorn player named TOKU. He is a Japanese. I am crazy about him now. His voice and tone of flugelhorn is nothing more sexy. I couldn't find his movie on youtube,sad...Please buy his CDs if you were interested in Jazz. He often play Jazz club in Tokyo such as Body&Soul and Blue Note Tokyo. I am going to watch his show next year to celebrate my 20th birthday. I can't wait to see him.

Met James Swearingen!!

As an trumpeter, as an music lover, I am worshiping James Swearingen. To me, he is God of music.People who involve in band, have played at least one time his production. He is now the most famous composer for band in the world.

He is actually from Ohio in U.S.A where I stayed one year. I didn't know he was living in next city ftom my town and my host sister has known him!! Since my host sister is talented musician, she has many connection with college music professers. My host sister took me to his office seacretly and I met James Swearingen!!! At first sight, I couldn't recognize him, but soon I realized this is him!! I cried. I cried a lot in front of him. This was one of the best moments in my life. He was gentle man. He signed my music score and gave me his latest C D for free. I took picture with him in everywhere in his office. He promised me he will come to Japan when the economy got better.

This is my music score with Mr.Swearingen's Signature. I like Swearingen because he features fantastic trumpets. His music is so exciting for both audience and performer. This "In All Its Glory" is my favorite piece. When I start playing the trumpet, I was dreaming of play his music so I practiced hard and in 3rd gade in junior high I played solo of this piece competition and got good evaluation.

This is the most memorial music piece of Swearingen to me, because I played trumpet solo first time in my life in this music.

I never forget meeting you, Mr. Swearingen!!

Love Musical : "Tarzan" I finally reached on the Broadway!!

I have been to NY,New York several times. The first time I went NY is to do marching in the Times Square. After our show all of band people watched a musical in Broadway. We supposed to watch the "Wicked" but we couldn't, because the "Wicked" is so popular. We watched the "Tarzan" instead.

The show was OK. The actors were wonderful. The main actor won the first prize of American Idol. However, I didn't like the stage art at all. This was not enough for the broadway. Next time I go to NY, I'll go the broadway and watch musicals by myself from the morning to the night and go to Jazz club, Birdland, Cotton Club or Blue Note.

This is a commercial of Tarzan of Broadway production.

Love Musical : "Fiddler on the roof" Matchmaker, find me a man!!

When did I come to like musicals, perhaps, because of my host sister. When I studied abroad, my host sisiter was a great, great, musician. She is one year older than I, and plays percussion. There were noboby who doesn't know her at school becuse she was so talented. She is writing her own musical. She showed me a lot of musicals from her musical DVD collection. When I watched "Les Miserables" DVD for the first time eatching musical in my life, I was shocked and fascinated. The "Les M~"I watched was not performed by professionals, but by highschool kids include my host sister. I couldn't belive it so that I couln't move whole time. The school I studied abroad named Gahanna Lincoln High School has perhaps the best Musical Performance and Instrumental Music program in Ohio State. Lots of students engage in this program are dreaming of becomming professial. During my stay, they performed " Fiddler on the Roof" as a school spring musical.

This one was great, too. Although it was school musical, it was so hard to get role. There were so many talented people. Unfortunately I couldn't find my school performance on youtube. I'll just put movie one and broadway one.

This musical is old musical which won many Tony Prize. This musical is about Jwes in Russia, so you can listen to a lot of Jews folk song's melody line in the musical. The story runs with the main character, Tavye ,the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters, each daughter's choice of husband moves progressively further away from established customs, and with the edict of the Tsarthat evicts the Jews from their village.
The one great thing watching this kinds of musical is we can understand the history and ubderstand different culture thriugh the joy of watching musical.

This is my favorite song in this musical, in their custom, matchmaker finds men for young ladies for marrige. I need a matchmaker, too.

The GREAT GREAT opening of Broadway Production.

Vying to be the Olympic host : The Japan Times June 16 issue

Summary:
Beijing Olympic is coming in this August. However, choosing city for 2016 Olympic Games has already been in progress. Tokyo, Chicago, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro have been chosen final candidates for the 2016 Olympic Games. Tokyo ranked first ahead of Madrid in the primary evaluation of IOC because of better factors than other candidates such as infrastructure, sports venues, safety and security, and environmental conditions. Tokyo has been appealed "the world's most compact Olympics" with most of sports sites are gathered within an 8-km radius and lots of hotel rooms within a 10-km radius. Finalists must submit detailed plans to the IOC by Feb. IOC experts will visit the cities and sites and meet with local officials. Tokyo needs to get interests both IOC members and citizen of its, only 59 percent of those support the Tokyo Olympic in 2016.

Opinion:
I got so much interest in holding Olympic Games in Tokyo. I really would like to see Olympic Games in my home city, Tokyo. However, since the purpose of Olympic is “World Peace”, I think it might be better for world peace to hold Olympic Games in countries which have a lot of difficulties. They probably don’t have good conditions for Olympic but we can make them there, developed country should help them and it will help people there and even make opportunities for people around the world to know about such countries. We need to consider how Olympic contribute to world peace truly even choosing the city where it will be held.

Japan picks woman astronaut for 2010 space flight: The Japan Times Nov11

Summary:
Japan has chosen a female astronaut to board the space shuttle Atlantis in 2010. She is going to be a country's first mother to go on a space mission. Her name is Naoko Yamazaki, 37 years old and mother of 6-year old daughter. Yamazaki is the second Japanese woman to go into space after Chiaki Mukai in1994 and 1998. She will be Japan’s eighth astronaut in space. Yamazaki is set to lift off for a two-week flight as a Japanese crew member of the Atlantis sometime after mid-February 2010. During the mission, the Atlantis is to carry equipment and materials for the International Space Station, and Yamazaki will be responsible for operating a robotic arm. Yamazaki joined the country's space agency in 1996 after studying aerospace engineering at the University of Tokyo. She told a news conference that she was a big fan of space adventure animation on TV as a child and space flight has been her lifetime dream. Yamazaki said that there have been times when she struggled to balance child-rearing and work, but her commitment to the space mission was unshaken. And she has got a helping hand. She said, "During the two-week flight, my husband is going to take care of all housework”.

Opinion:I am so proud of her as a woman. Since I am so bad at science and mathematics, I have never dreamed of becoming an astronaut. What make working mothers who has professional jobs such as astronaut hard is lacking enough supports from their partners. I believe women has great abilities same as men. Men should help households more so working mothers can use their abilities enough at works.

Images read from human brain: The Daily Yomiuri Dec.11

Summary:
In a world first, a research group in Kyoto Prefecture has succeeded in processing and displaying optically received images directly from the human brain.
The group of researchers at Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International, said about 100 million images can be read.
Optically received images are converted to electrical signals in the retina and treated in the brain's visual cortex.
In the recent experiment, the research group asked two people to look at 440 different still images one by one on a 100-pixel screen. Each of the images comprised random gray sections and flashing sections.
The research group measured subtle differences in brain activity patterns in the visual cortexes of the two people with a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanner. They then subdivided the images and recorded the subjects' recognition patterns.
They also said that dreams as well as mental images are likely to visualize in the future in the same manner.

Opinion:
I am excited to see my mental images in the future. I think this technology can also be used in medical situation for people who are suffering mental illness.

Love Musical : "Hair spray" They're comming back to Japan!!

Yeah!! The wonderful broadway show is comming back to Japan. I am so exciting. Have you ever watched "Hairspray"?? You better have. The movie was also made, it was great, but the stage is fabulous, marvelous and GLAMORUS!!! I watched their first stage in Tokyo, it was definitely fantastic. I recommend to watch the stage rather than movie. The black dancers on the stage are freek'n hot!! Trust me. But other than the hot guys, this show has to be watched by every single person in the world.

The story about the fat girl who wants to be in TV show and dance in it. The time and setting is around civil rights movement era in U.S.A. This musical also includes serious problems such as bias and segregation. So, this musical is not just a love comedy.

This is a ticket. I am still keeping. The movie below is the commercial of the movie one.

I am a trumpeter☆

I have played trumpet since I was in the 5th grade in elementary school. I love trumpet. I can play the trombone and cornet, either, but I love the trumpet best!! I stopped play trumpet anymore, because I somewhat lost my confidence when I went to U.S.A, all trumpeter around me were talented and I was not. I miss playing the trumpet. I think I should play it just for a fun.

This is my trumpet case. I put some stickers. Whenever I brought this case I felt like I am a Jazz musician, I felt elect. I like bringing this case better than practice.

My Beautiful trumpet and cornet. The trumpet's name is "Challenger", the B&S brand. The cornet is YAMAHA brand, ordinary one. The trumpet is difficult for me to handle. I wanna get new one.

My hand and my sweet cornet.

Yes..I still awake eventhough it is midnight.

I read book "The Awakening" written by Kate Chopin.I wanted to read this book since I learn it in American Literature History class. The story was so interesting!! But some people would not like it because, the story includes sexual expression.

Chopin, Kate. The Awakening. New York, New York: Viking Penguin Inc., 1983, 143pages.

Responding To the Plot:
If I was Edna, the main character of the story, I would have done the same things as she had done except commit suicide. I prefer live to death. I will disappear with saying nothing to all people I know and start absolute new life. I felt empathy to her as an individual woman. Although I’m not married and having no children I could understand her feelings when I imagine my marriage life which may be waiting for me in near future.
Edna had affairs with two men even though she was married. Robert is the first guy had an affair with Edna, He truly loved her. The second guy whose name is Alcee wanted just Edna’s body at first but he eventually loved her. I would like to change this part because all men in this novel including her husband loved Edna too much, so I didn’t want Alcee love her both physically and mentally. I think the men around Edna are making the story a little bit boring.
“I would give up unessential; but I wouldn’t give myself”(p.56), I like this remark because I think this is the all she hoped to. I think she wanted tell that we all are individual human regardless of existed position, custom or traditional.

Literary Analysis:

1) Setting
At the Potellier family’s seaside resort Grand Isle, Louisiana and in the New Orleans where they have a house. The time is while the author lived, so it may around 1850-1900.

2) Points of view
The story is told from the third person.

3) Conflict
Edna verses her position (being mother and wife). She verses her environment (Creoles’ community, their custom and tradition, people’s stereotypes). She Verses herself.

4) Climax
When Edna went into ocean with no clothes and killed herself.

5) Symbol
Beach, or Ocean. These represented freedom in the story.

6) Irony
Edna has everything to spend happy life. She has a nice husband who is a very successful business man and has cute kids. She should be happy however she was not satisfied. She had questions about her life and she liberated her inner emotions and artistic ambition. She decided to free herself from her old life including her social position, her role as a wife and her role as a mother and had affair with guys. Her betrayal to peoples’ standards or moral can be taken as an irony by readers.

7)Theme
Women’s awakenings of essential human instinct from being properties of men.

Reflecting on the Story:
I didn’t expect I could feel so much empathy to the main character, when I first read summary of the story. Edna was in the position where she should not have done the things what she had done. The way she love men is against morality but it is not uncomprehensible. No one would hate her because everyone has desire or ambitious like she had, this is why this novel is interesting and captive.
The author of this novel, Kate Chopin, has similar background to Edna, so the author’s life must be reflected to The Awakening. Kate Chopin started writing after her husband died. She was released from being husband’s property and got her own life. This experience might have inspired her to write this kind of novels.
I fully agree with author’s view of life, because it is true that sometimes existed people’s standards, position, custom or traditional bothers me to reach myself what I really wished to be. I sometimes wanted break through those, but I couldn’t and struggled like Edna. I learned that, we have to consider more what is unessential and what is essential for us.

World Peace

When I think about world peace, I always got interested in how ODA works for it,because ODA is supported by our tax. I wrote essay about ODA in writing class, I thought this is a good one. However ,I got B, lower than I had expected...sad. There are so many spelling miss though....

ODA Problems

ODA stands for “Official Development Assistance”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan explains the ODA on its official webpage that, "The main objective of ODA is the promotion of economic development and welfare of developing countries". ODA consists of contributions from donor government agencies to developing countries and to multilateral institutions such as theInternational Bank and other institutions which belong to United Nations. Donor government agencies are those of developed countries. For these countries, the aims of doing the ODA are not to promote economic conditions or welfare for developing countries but to get their national profits. Because of this attitude, problems have risen and been criticized. Developed countries need to stop searching only their national profits. To make it clear, it is useful to classify problems of the ODA on the basis of the donor countries’ real purposes.

The first purpose is making money or business opportunities to make the most of the ODA. The advantages of the ODA are not limited only to developing countries, but donor countries are also able to get advantages by carrying it out. For example, constructing infrastructure such as roadways by support from donor country make profits for both countries. They can build a good relationship and it helps promotion of trading and even make easier to find new buisiness opportunities. However, this kind of bilateral ODA often causes serious problems because governments and related companies only consider about making money. According to the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, the dam in Indonesia that was built by Japanese government support destroyed the surrounding environment and inhabitants around the dam accused Japanese government and Indonesian government.

The next is for natural resources. Developing countries which have abounding natural resources tend to be supported more than other developing countries by developed countries in the name of ODA. This is because donor countries are taking advantage of them by trying to get a stable amount of natural resources from them. This fact causes unfair distribution of support and development differences between developing countries, which means, the countries that really need ODA can end up getting inadequate amount of support. This is the biggest problem of ODA and difficult to solve since bilateral ODA involves the matter of making profits for both sides.

The last one has appeared recently. Making or keeping good relationships with other countries by doing ODA is more important since 9.11, because one nation needs to protect their citizen from terrorism. However, this attitude is also out of the real objective of the ODA and unfair distribution of support can occur, too. People have to consider more why they have to depend on the ODA to get safety although there is the UN Security Council.

By classifying problems of the ODA, it is clear that the United nations should give up bilateral ODA to stop developed countries’ selfishness. They should gather every supports from developed countries and distribute those to developing countries wcich have really needs for helps. The concept of “Equal Distribution “ is needed. The time when each nation searches for national profits only for themselves have to be ended.

Feel Like "Rhapsody in Blue"

Have you ever watched Silverster's New Year Countdown Concert on TV?? I have watched it every year since I was in high school. I would like to watch it in the concert hall someday. Anyway, they played "Rhapsody in Blue" this year!! When I found out they were going to play this song, I screemed with excitment, because I LOVE "Rhapsody in Blue". Rhapsody in Blue is one of the most famous "Jazz Symphonic" pieces, and it composed by George Gershwin. He also composed "An American in Paris" and famous opera "Pogry and Bess". The famous song "Summertime" is from that Opera. Rhapsody in blue was composed when the world was in economic crisis. Since economic crisis is comming to us now, the music choice was understandable. However, in countdown concert, the orchestra and the solo pianist played "Rhapsody in Blue" horribly. I was so dissapointed. On New Year day, I went Youtube to listened to better play to forget yesterday horriableness. I put "Rhapsody in Blue" Fantasia version. This one play nice and video itself is interesting.
